It was a feature that existed and was removed for no apparent reason.

It wasn’t even announced (it appears). It was just long standing behavior that just abruptly stopped working.

What was kept (notifications for likes) is close to useless.
But it's much like my wife griping every time she changes to a new version of Windows on her PC's. Ain't nothing can be done about it. Microsoft isn't gonna change it for that version.

So just like I tell my wife, I'm telling others to learn to deal with what it is now.

It’s more like Word removing bold and keeping strikethrough in the same version of Word.

vbulliten removing this feature doesn’t make sense. It’s weird.

A lot of the griping about different versions of Windows is often about features being moved (not eliminated). So, it really is not like that at all.

In any case, it’s still a reasonable thing to complain about and there might be some small chance of getting it fixed. Your “take it and like it” is sad and defeatist.

And it’s not like MS ignores all feedback.

============================

People appear to be misconstruing what I said.

Suggesting people should not complain about the removal of a long-standing feature is suggesting they "give up".

I doubt any forums like this have paid moderators. I don't think you can make money with a site like this if the moderators were paid.
Regardless, I tend to just find the business model where volunteers help a for profit company succeed to be a bit funny.
You are one such volunteer, so you don't find that scenario to be funny.

It's cool, humor is individual.

I wish I could turn off notifications for likes. I swear it searches all the posts I have ever made to see if I got a new like. I recall that likes were enabled in the early days and then turned off for a long time and then turned back on. Apparently there are technical issues. But it's a popular feature.

As far as me getting paid, I am not sure I would take the job if there was an offer to be paid. Tbh, the only reason I'm still a moderator is that I hate spam. I much prefer things if people are self-regulating. I just don't think it's that difficult.

You can turn off likes for your posts somewhere in the settings. Which I guess should turn off notifications.

I don't know when likes became a thing on forums, but this is the first one I can remember seeing them on. I assume they would be useful for someone looking to see if an answer to something was generally accepted as good or true. Instead it seems like they are acceptance of snide remarks more than good answers. They are definitely not as useful as quote notifications.

I never said anyone's complaint was unreasonable. Is it reasonable for you to complain about my post? I'm just offering my view of how I see other's reacting to this. As well I've posted several times in different places how one can go about figuring out if they've been quoted.

Yet here you are wanting to call me out for not being lockstep with you and others. Hmmm!

I don't think complaining is unreasonable. I have definitely seen some unreasonable complaints about it though, some of which seem to have the intent of being hurtful.

Compatibility across sites is a worthy goal, sometimes getting issues fixed takes a very long time. So hopefully going to a common codebase across sites will help that a little.

You implied it was unreasonable. Calling it “griping” for a reasonable complaint would be weird. (It’s possible some people are “griping” but you are strongly suggesting it’s anybody complaining about it.)

Your suggestion really isn't practical anyway. It's somewhat doable for recent threads but no one is going to do that for every thread. It's like you don't have a good idea of the feature that was removed.

I’m “just offering my view”. So, obviously, by your rules, it’s quite reasonable.

Huh? This doesn’t make sense. If you can complain about other people, people can complain about you. But you want special treatment.
