Tour de France Gravel Bikes

I’ve Googled some but can’t find any info on bike and tire choices for Stage 9 with 32k of gravel. The tarmac between gravel sections are rumored to be pretty bad as well. Maybe no changes to regular bikes.

the only quote I saw about this gravel said it was smooth, but narrow. So they may not have changed bikes much.

This morning Bettiol said the only change to his bike was going from 28 to 30mm tires.

Pretty much that was it, just “wider” tires. From what I could tell from the Eurosport coverage before the race, nearly all were tubules. Also, a few riders were riding bars with a slight flare, but the frame sets appears to the be the standard tour frames.

A small flare is becoming more popular with road bars. Also, the way modern levers are built (tilted off vertical), they can give an appearance of a flared bar.

From 25mm to 32mm: What tyres did teams choose for the gravel at the Tour de France?

Pros opt for Paris-Roubaix style set-ups to deal with coarse terrain

From 25mm to 32mm: What tyres did teams choose for the gravel at the Tour de France?

"In order to maximise comfort, and reduce the risk of punctures, a handful of teams decided to size up to 32mm tyres, 4mm wider than the set-ups they have been using over the first week of racing. Among those riding 32mms were Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, Lidl-Trek, Alpecin-Deceuninck and TotalEnergies."

"Remco Evenepoel's Soudal Quick-Step chose to stick with their usual set-up, trusting in the 28mm tyres that they have been running throughout the race. One of the team's mechanics explained this decision came after a recon of the gravel, when it was agreed to favour the tarmacked sections, which make up the majority of the stage. "

Also looks like most (perhaps all?) went tubeless rather than tubular. I guess they've all been bought off by 'big tubeless.'

Sections of gravel were coarser and softer than they anticipated, and Remco paid for it. He did make up time on the tarmac sections, but I'll bet he was wishing for wider tires on that climb with deep gravel, where he lost traction.
