Sprinters fit so tightly. Without any significant braking, I cannot imagine the tire shifting like that. Upon installation??? I could imagine one arm doing most of the stretching which could result in some creep as the tire tries to find some equilibrium.

Well that sucks...

I'm getting ready for Eroica. I glued up a new set of Vittoria Corsa tubulars (30mm) and installed them on my wheels today. Before gluing them, I'd had them stretching on rims for quite some time (a year?). I inflated them and compared the width to the existing Veloflex ProTour 28s. Both measured ~28mm wide. "Fine, they should fit." Alas, no.

They're currently inflated to 100psi. I'll let them sit overnight, then deflate them to more normally rideable pressures (65-70psi) and see if that improves things. I suspect it won't, but 🤞. If it doesn't, I've got some Vittoria 28s on my Serotta which should work.

The fun of size vs real size

Yes, and these didn't even measure as big as their nominal size. My Serotta has some 28mm Vittoria tubulars. They have very few miles and will do in a pinch.

Now to figure out which bike those chunkier Vittorias will fit.
