Advice: Voyager braking

Ok, so everything is coming together decently well except choosing the braking. The posts are very tight clearance for starters (based on tubes), and for 700C, do not give much for me to work with...

My options are:
1. Go back to 27" wheels and buy tires, except I do not have 27 wheels of good quality (I might have one set somewhere), and tire options are limited unless I want to spend $60 on new ones after just buying a set of 700x35s for this bike (it is a giveaway).

2. Find a V-brake set that would work well (I hate them for the record)
https://www.ebay.com/itm/31540076451...r=613888508684

3. Use Tektro long reach, but then might have to cut off (drew) the posts so they clear.

4. Find a set of cantilevers that would fit the tight clearance and still stop the bike. Any suggestions?

Help!

Year of the Voyageur in question may help bring in some personal anecdotes.

mention of canti posts tells readers an early model is not being discussed

might help readers with a date or picture of subject machine...

model launch was 'lxxiii and came with caliper arrestors for the first few years

Your 85 Voyageur? Additional options: 5. move the pivots 6. Abandon the Voyageur and find something built for 700C. Between options 1-4 I like 4 best.

*edit* my #6 was not meant to be snarky, but rather practical. There are a ton of vintage bikes out there and very few of us who want them. Full disclosure: I ride (a lot) an 87 Voyageur with original 27x1-1/4.

After a couple people reached out and made me feel better about it, I opted for Option 3 (eek).
1. Reason 1. It is a giveaway to someone who just wants to ride it.
2. Reason 2. The frame was in the junk pile for trashing when I found it (and had rust everywhere).
3. Reason 3. I found really close fitting cantis, and with the thin pads, it wouldn't clear the fork...also, they just didn't have the angle embracing the pad I felt safe with, whereas the dual pivot tektros will provide clearance enough for the tires and the potential fenders. And they are good stoppers for the most part.
4. Reason 4. It will have new life and no one wanted the frame when I put it up here before! Haha.

I thinks it’s a 85, but could be an 87 maybe?

I’m okay with a bit of sacrilege I think...I also think if she brings it to a bike shop, they will be able to more easily adjust.

Its an 86. The cantis that came on it stock (Dia Compe 981) reach perfectly for 700c and brake well, its what many of the examples of 85s and 86s I've seen on this forum have done, myself included.

Thank you all.

The 981 pair in the stash were ones I tried and I couldn’t get the angle right. I saw v-brakes I think would have worked, but couldn’t justify spending another $50.

I was trying to use everything I had on hand plus brand new tires.

The 27” wheels ended up meh in my stash, and I’ll need them for a sell bike. Plus I would need to spend $60 on a decent set of paselas, or gravel Kings.

i worries she might take it to the bike shop at some point and none are vintage friendly where she lives. These are easy for techs.

I am trying to move frames/bikes out of my possession rather than buy. There was a British issue Trek Trekking that I liked but it would be $100 which is what I have been avoiding doing this year!

Did I drew the posts? Yes I did. Did I save the frame from the trash? Also Yep. Will it be used and loved? I think so!

one less piece of scrap metal!

Poor decision.

You drewed off the ******g posts because you didn't want to use the correct brakes to use the wheels you wanted to use.

Sorry, not sorry.
