I picked this up a few years ago from a guy who said he got it from his neighbor, the original owner from 1966. I didn't have to do much to it besides the usual, new grease, inner cables and brake pads, as well as a lot of polishing. It still has the original tires which aren't too bad, which like the bike, were also made in Austria. These were made by Puch for Sears. According to the 1966 Sears catalog, this was below the Ted Williams model which came with Campagnolo derailleurs and gear shift levers, as well as QR axels and fenders. This bike has a 26.6mm seat tube so it may be a 531 frame like the Better Ted Williams model.

It has a Huret Allvit rear derailleur, Huret fd and gear shift levers, Nervar cottered crankset, Weinmann Vainqueur 999 center pull brakes with gold anodized brake handles, AVA chrome stem and handlebars with original plastic wrapping, Atom pedals, Atom 5 speed fw, Weinmann aluminum rims, chrome Normandy hubs and a San Marco hard plastic type saddle.

I know it was an inexpensive bike, and still is, but I think Sears did a nice job with this bike with features like internal rear brake cable, and great blue paint with white pinstriping. I think it's a great looking bike with the chrome stays, and I love the fact that it's all practically still original with just 321 miles showing on the odometer. I may end up keeping this one for a little while.

I love old survivors, and this is such a good example of a survivor it isn't too far removed from NOS.

Thank you for sharing this.

You have got a treasure, as in, treasure it for what it is! Certainly a survivor in fantastic condition and also representing what Sears offered, Austria could produce after a very destructive war.
i have several Austrian bikes and like the ride of all of them.

That's just how I feel about it too. This is one that won't be ridden, much, by me at least. It will most likely end up in a collection or museum to represent the early, pre bike boom era of the 10 speed.

Here is one I picked up a year ago. Haven’t ridden yet, it’s disassembled. This thread might be just what I need to get off my rear and get this thing back together.

Mine is in rough shape. Yours is beautiful!

the forum had an extensive thread on an example exactly like yours, the bicycle was dated 1967

the poster found it out at the curb on trash pickup day(!) and performed a bang-up resto - his first!

Yours is the Ted Williams model with the Campy parts. It should look great when you're done with it. I've got another one myself that I need to get back to. It has no decals or headbadge, and was painted orange, everywhere. It has a Campy fd and shifters, a Crane long cage rd, and the same brakes as the blue one. I cleared the orange paint off the stays, fork ends and the lugs, and found nice chrome underneath.

The chrome on mine is sort of shot. It's not that it's pitted, but just sort of worn away. I think I was talking about it to someone, and the thought was that it was a cheap bike, hence cheap chrome. On your, do you have gaps underneath the lugs? Almost like the braze didn't fully get in there? Looking at the very first bike you posted (beautiful blue!) it sort of looks like the same small gaps maybe, under the lugs? At first I was a little worried about it, but I think I'm not maybe more amused by it. I think its probably how they all were. In any case, I should get this one up and going!

Any idea what the BB threading on these are?

Yeah, it does have those gaps, but not too bad. Like you said, it was a cheap bike. My blue one was $75 when new, but like I said at the start of this thread, Sears did a nice job with these bikes for as cheap as they were. I found the chrome to be very nicely done on both bikes. I haven't removed either cottered cranks yet. I'm going to attempt them with a C clamp tomorrow. Both run very smooth though.

Here's what the orange one looked like when I bought it.
