Shimano 105 (1055), 7-speed Groupset

For sale is a Shimano 105 (1055) groupset coming off an early-90s Cannondale road bike.

All parts are photographed here

This set was carefully removed from the bike, everything that could be disassembled was, then all parts were ultrasonically cleaned, polished/buffed (where appropriate), re-lubed (where appropriate) and carefully reassembled. This is a turnkey package ready to be bolted on, cabled up and ridden immediately.

This group isn’t for a show bike but it is an excellent set, in good shape overall with a finish that is often not shown in great shape due to the delicate, brushed and milky finishing. The overhaul should keep it going strong for years of riding as an excellent, tough-as-nails group for your build.

Below are notes I took as I cleaned and reassembled the parts to provide as much “full disclosure” as I can. I am happy to answer any questions that you might have.

====================================================

Crankset: 52/42T, 170mm. Shimano SG rings adorn this crank and are in wonderful shape. No “sharks fins” here! Neither crank arms show major dents, dings, cracks or marring that would have you wince when discovered, though the non-drivetrain arm does have a touch of flaking which is shown in one of the images. Most importantly, in my opinion, both arms show full, clear logos without any foot rub. Silver dust caps included.

Downtube Shift Levers: The bolt faces show some scuffs but the overall levers are gorgeous with nice color and again, full, clear logo representation.

Front Derailleur: Great looking faceplate and logo. Currently attached to a Shimano front derailleur braze-on adapter clamp (34.9mm) so if braze on is what you need, this should work.

Rear Derailleur: Very little wear on the front or rear of this one. A kiss of blemish here and there but you would have to bend down and get close to the mounted derailleur to see it. Jockey wheels are excellent and spinning superbly.

Brake Levers: These are wonderful looking levers for a component that is typically in the worst shape due to heavy usage. They levers are free of blemishes, the logos are crisp on both and the actions on them are nice and snappy. One of the levers is missing its “SLR” sticker and both hoods are in sublime shape without heavy wear marks or cuts/gashes.

Brake Calipers: A little logo wear on the rear caliper along with a “SLR” logo being removed on the pivot bolt. The adjustment springs also have some light rust that I was able to remove. Nothing functional, just cosmetic. Pads are Shimano and look nearly brand new. The actions are on these are as you would expect dual pivots to be. Strong and secure.

Headset: English, 1” (26.4). Public facing areas are superb and the races/bearings show hardly any wear at all. The 105 logo for both top and bottom cups were completely gone when I received them. So, they have no 105 branding but the soft silver color theme stays consistent with the group. The locknut has the slightest chip out of the plastic guard. This does not affect performance, and I tried to show the chip in a specific image.

Bottom Bracket: 68-SS English 1.370x24tpi, 116mm in length. The bearings and races are in wonderful condition. Though functional, it is suggested that a new spindle be used. This one has some significant wear on one of the races, shown in a specific image. The rest of the set, including the dust sleeve, is in great shape.

Hub: Only the front hub is available (32 holes; 100mm) for this group but it does come with the Shimano skewer and is spinning perfectly. The logo is just a touch rubbed off in the middle but overall, the rest of the hub is in excellent shape.

All parts are photographed here

The 1055 group is on a Cannondale Zero BikeI left at my brother’s house. All around smooth group AND, fresh NOS hoods are easy to come by.

Something is wrong. "Mid-80s" 105 did not have dual pivot calipers. I have '89 105 with single pivot, dual pivots came early '90s, at least on 105.

Is it just me, or are those chainrings assembled in the wrong rotational position? Doesn't the tab for each go under the crank arm?
