Threaded Schrader valve tube for 27 inch tires?

Hello All

I've been looking for tubes with THREADED Schrader values for my 27 x 1 1/4 tires. (I have really old Michelin Air Stop tubes with threaded Schrader valves that I really love, but I no longer use them because of their age - 30 to 40 years maybe. Best tube I ever had!).

I did find Continental Tour 700 tubes with threaded Schrader valves. It says they fit 700c x 32-47mm (32/47-622 ISO). Would that work on my 27 x 1 1/4 tires?

I wonder why threaded valves aren't commonplace for Schrader valves like they are with Presta valves.

Many thanks!

700c work in 27" with no issues.

The "inner diameter" (BSD) is only 8mm greater in the 27" vs 700c. 630 vs 622.
I think your tube selection is pretty much what I'd settle for.

You'll often find both sizes marked on the same package.

Schwalbe AV17 Inner Tube

The box says it's good for 27 x 1-1/4.

The fully threaded SV went the way of dynosaurs as tube molding technology evolved.

Once the process for molding butyl tubes and the rubber cone/shorty valve was introduced, it was only a matter of time before the more expensive design disappeared. The coup de grace was the movement to narrower rims, which lacked clearance for the base flange and nut.

You still might find one if you shop for latex tubes, but make sure there's a picture.

BTW fully threaded Presta valves are also starting to disappear for the same reasons.

Schwalbe tubes are the best and still threaded the last time I looked. The valves are only 40 mm, but that's OK with the threaded nut.
It doesn't seem to matter what size the box says for smaller 700C tubes, they are 1 1/4" flat and skinny 1" with some air. So I started getting 1.75" tubes for my 36 mm tires.
Shorty valves are made for steel rims I gather. Da hell is that??

Schwlabe tubes would work usually 700x35 range will do but the package usually lists the 27" sizing.

Not at all sure why you want a threaded valve stem. I purposely use Michelin Presta valve tubes because they aren't threaded and so don't chew up my pump grommet. At any rate, take an inner tube and pump it up. See how stretchy it is? Zero issues with a 700c tube in a 27" tire, as all the others have noted.

Thanks Paul_P. Yes, I saw that, but the chart on the box was a bit confusing. I wasn't sure whether it was telling me all the tires that the tube fits or whether it was telling me which tube to choose based on the tire size. That's why I decided to double check here. thanks again.

Thanks for the explanation FBinNY (By the way, I'm north of you in Bedford Hills, NY)

I did notice that the top edge of rims on my wife's much newer bike almost come to a point; they are very narrow. I was wondering whether threaded valves would even fit. The ring holding the valve would be wider than the top edge of the rim. I didn't even think about the bolt on the underside. Your explanation is very interesting.

Thanks again.

Thanks KerryIrons.

I like them because they stay nice and straight (sometimes the non threaded ones seem to move at an angle, or maybe i'm just not being careful enough when I install. Also, I find it easier to pump because the valve doesn't move when I attach the pump or wiggle if I'm hand pumping. I also like the way they look, nice and clean, though that's not a big issue.

But your take is very interesting.

Thanks again.
