Removing Shimano MF-Z012 freewheel

Agree with both. You don't want the assembly running on grease. I just use a thin wipe to make sure the balls stayed in the race while assembling. After flushing it with Tri-Flow it's running on oil, not grease.

OK the plot thickens....
This is a Columbia Meridian and has a 7-speed shimano shifter, but this dang freewheel is only 6 cogs.
sigh
I have a 7 speed freewheel but its one that steps from 14-2? teeth to a 34 tooth first gear, and I don't know if the chain and rear derailleur cage will handle that wrap.
I'm off to google the Ser Num and try to figure out what this came with.
Edit: when I google columbia meridian I get adult trikes. When I try to find SN lookup site I find vintage stuff from decades ago.
This is probably 15-ish years old
Serial Number: 07D0048711

Else- Buy a 7 speed FW with cogs you like. There's multiple combinations available.

OK last post - the bike is done, after a few "Ah HA" moments:
6-cog freewheel on a 7-speed shifter
Rear tire HAD to be removed with tire irons (I *never* use irons except maybe on a 700c-23 110lb tire)
I had a wheel in Spares with a 14-34 freewheel. I took it off and mounted it to the wheel, but the axle cone lock nuts didn't reach the frame, and with the 6-cog the cone nuts were may too far inward to clamp up to the dropouts.
Some idiot replaced the rear wheel with a 6-cog freewheel/hub. The rim wasn't even the same profile (hence the tire not fitting. Maybe 650c?).
I pulled the spare wheel, put the 7-cog 14-34 back on, moved the tire over, which went on just like a 26x1.95 should. And the black hub now matches the front.
Shifts fine. All 21 work. No excessive wrap on the RR cage.
Back on the kickstand.
But hey! I got to buy a new tool! And I'll never have a problem getting a freewheel (or a semi-truck tire) off again.
Thanks for all the comments and advice folks.
