This SUCKS!!!(in spain)
Alright so I've been riding arround madrid for a few days now and it's pretty difficult and cool. . . but today while I was decending this one hill, I heard this huge bang! then my bike suddenly started to slow down without me even trying (think a blown tire). So I jumped off the bike and looked at my rear tire and noticed my chain had a TON of slack. That led me to conclude that my nut had just came loose and my wheel just moved up in the dropout. NOPE not the case, so as I pull out my wrench to tighten the nuts I notice that the locking nut (the grooved one on the inside) just wasn't there! This is great because nuts are like the only extra part that I didn't bring
So enough with the story, I have a question. Where the fing hell do I get one of these? It's an IRO/Forumla hub and I really don't want to get the wrong one and have it break or mess up the spacing or chainline. So where can I get one where it wouldn't cost a buhzillion dollars for shipping? Any help would be worth its weight in gold. Thanks!

I broke that same nut on my formula hubs as well. By overtightening.
I just went down to the LBS and got a new one. It's a pretty standard part. available in a variety of diameters and thicknesses.
I got a smaller diameter one, which was thicker, so i didn't need to use spacers on that side anymore.

Spain is a metric country. Any hardware store should have 10mm nuts. Take the wheel in with you and point at the good one.

I wouldn't trust that. I think he told you to say 'My nuts are only 10mm. I'd like a hard shiny piece of steel.'

So are you saying the locknut just cracked in half and fell off of your bike? That sounds like a scary defect to me regardless of whether it was overtightened or not.

yah that's what i'm saying. . .but either way it's fixed and i rode to dinner tonight. it was great except for 2 seconds after i left my appartment i fell off my bike. Here in madrid they wash the streets with water every night so when i got out the road was wet. Well when i started pedaling hard to get up to speed my rear wheel spun unexpectedly sending my front foot flying out of the pedal and my other pedal launching me head over heels over my bars! yah about the dumbest and most embarassing wreck of my life. Madrid RULES!!!

I guess I need to remember to drink more bourbon before riding on days like that.
