mixed spokes?
I managed to damage 5 spokes during a cross race on a bontrager rear wheel (drive side). It is using dt swiss bladed/aero spokes. Unfortunately I can't find any shop that sells individual aero spokes (all local bike shops are geared for mountain bikers). Is there any issues with mixing in standard spokes? Will I have to respoke just the damaged side of the wheel or do I have to respoke the whole wheel? Is there issues with using double butted vs straight gauge if I do this? Yes I know it will look funny, but the wheel is 6 years old so I don't want to throw a lot of money at it. While at the same time, this wheel has never gone out of true, or had any hub issues so I think it has life left in it, at least enough to be abused during the cx season. Thanks...

If it were me, I'd spend $20 or so, and re-lace the whole thing with DT swiss double butted spokes. It'll be stronger and likely ride better too.

Not sure but I don't think standard spokes will fit the hub that goes with the paired spoke wheels. At least that's what I decided when I looked at my wife's Bontragers.

If your wheel uses straight-pull spokes then you will need to specify those, which are available in "normal" non-aero varieties, if not there is probably nothing to worry about since bontrager uses standard spoke nipples. A mix of spokes might look odd but will work just fine.

Same question as the OP, but mine are Shimano WH-R540. They use a fixed side-pull (terminology?) spoke with bushing at the rim and adjustable nipple at the hub. (I need neither.) Shimano specifies the lengths in the EV document. Can I use any similar spoke of that length? E.g. Sapim CX-Ray?

I believe so. Shimano WH-R540 uses a larger than normal nipple (might have to be special ordered, but )you might be able to use the existing one) but it has a normal 14 gauge thread, for standard spokes (including CX-ray).

https://cambriabike.com - but be warned, they don't include nipples for that low price!
