"America is at the top in terms of per capita bicycle ownership, but at the bottom of the list in terms of usage."

Too true and too sad... there's gotta be something productive we can do with the bikes people have sitting in their garages that have never seen a foot on the pedal.

I wonder what their main reasoning behind this is. Is it advocacy, or is it marketing cleaverly disguised?

Perhaps a bit of both, but does the motive really matter if it results in achieving the goals they mention? If they sell a few more energy bars and there's less CO2 emissions and traffic congestion, I can live with that trade off.

Wouldn't it be nice if all companies marketed their products by advocating alternative transportation?

I beg to differ on the CO2 part, some of those bars send me on a farting spree!
Honestly? If a marketing capaign does more than just promote sales I'll give it a thumbs up, but still I have to wonder. I'm cynical by nature.

Cool! I like that it's not too over the top--it shows how much pollution is avoided if you switch ONE two mile car trip per week for a bike ride. Or if ONE in ten car commuters switched to a bike. Those aren't big numbers, but the payoff is huge.

I eat lots of clif bars. Maybe I'll buy more.

As far as I know, the founders of ClifBar are the real deal. Yes, it is good advertising to a targeted demographic, but it is also a good message -- a win-win all around.

Disclosure: I have enjoyed Clif Bars for many years.

I like Clif bars.
BTW, I found this video on Treehugger.com

It's a great site, though some of their suggestions are not economical by any means.

Same here. I'm not sure if it's the Clif Bars or the Power Bars, but after a century I often have Power Farts. However I'm happy to let cows continue to take the blame for methane emissions and the hole in the ozone layer, even if I might be partially to blame!

Besides, their bars taste like actual food.
