Wife's new Pink Singlespeed
I just finished my wife's new ride: a 1987 Peugeot Iseran Mixte converted to singlespeed.
Before:
After:
Mavic Open Sports with Formula hubs, Dia Compe centerpull brakes, Kalloy stem, Nitto North Road bars, Shimano brake levers, Brooks B-17S, Acorn saddlebag, Sugino RD Cranks, Sugino BB, SRAM chain, Raleigh repro grips from Harris. Bell from eBay.
I tried really hard to get the rear brake mounted on the flange that's in-line with the top tubes but it just wasn't long enough. To get the saddle on the seatpost, I bought a $10 saddle from Wally World and used its seatpost clamp. LBS didn't have one lying around. Original fork had a slight bulge on the steerer tube so it was tossed and replaced with one from Pyramid.
Paint is Krylon Watermelon. Decals from the Internet, headbadge from One Gear Clothing.com
Gearing is a very relaxing 48-20. (65 g.i.)

Very cool, is it a fixte? I bought one just like it for my wife, but I was riding my bike when I picked it up and it was missing a wheel. I took them both home on the train and locked hers at the station. I didn't get around to going back for it for a day or so and it got pinched. It had some really cool fenders too, I was pretty bummed.

I love pink, but I like the original paint job better. Nice bike though.

Nice paint job. Did you just sand and polish the fork?

Fork was chrome; cost $12-13. Saddle bag is made by Acorn, seller is ronzorini on eBay.
It is set up as singlespeed now but the hub is a flip-flop. I don't see my wife riding fixed, though.
The original paint job had a lot of scratches and rust everywhere.
The "Piege de la mort" I got from a do-it-yourself decal site. Greatlettering.com pick the color, the font, shadowing or outlining, and your message. Very easy to apply. Protected under several layers of clearcoat.

Though I am disappointed that it no longer has any of that "peugy" character anymore, I'd say that you did a seriously awesome job on that ride. Wifey now has a sweetness bike, which totally eclipses any jewelry that them commercials try and convince us to buy for the ladies. Right on.

Thanks!
I recently fixed up a bike for a little old lady that works in my wife's office. Quite the character, at 73 she drives a Mini Cooper S and has no patience for slow drivers.
I took this:
and turned it into this:
She's not quite 5' so the bike fits her perfectly. Now she terrorizes the greenway on the weekends.

That build for your wife is killler.
How stiff is that frame? my soon to be wife rides an old Schwinn colegent (girls frame) and it is any thing but stiff. not to mention it is about 40 lbs with all original components, except tires and cables. I ask because I want to build her a single speed that will give her a bit more performance, while still keeping her on a bike that she will think is fun to ride.....she loves the Schwinn because it h.as great silver fenders. I admit it is a great looking bike but rides like spit

Mixte frames are stiff, even a cheap one like that Peugeot. Paint has held up nicely but then she takes care of where she leaves the bike.
I read a blog from a guy that toured Italy on a mixte and he said they were called death traps, not sure why. My wife is convinced I'm going to die on a bike so when I built one for her, the name came to mind. The skull decal came from OneGear Clothing
Yeah, the "Slightweight" name is highly ironic since it weighs about thirty pounds. Quite heavy for a 24" wheeled singlespeed.
The paint was acrylic Krylon "watermelon". 3 cans of primer, 3 cans of paint, 3 cans of clearcoat. I let the frame sit for three days, then tried to attach the rear brake on the bridge that's inline with the twin tubes. Paint was still a bit soft and the brake washer left an imprint. left the frame alone for another 9 days and the paint was hard as a rock.
I put decals on both sides; no, you don't need a reverse.
