My Schwinn Super Sport conversion -done w/ pics!

Finished!

Before:

After:

This was my first single speed conversion.

The frame is a 1983 Schwinn Super Sport with Tange Champion No. 2 tubing. I had it built up previously as a 14-speed commuter with Suntour Cyclone II and beefy touring wheels. (pic) Recently, I decided I wanted to try something new.

I pieced together:
-Xero XSR-3 wheels
-FSA Pro Track 46t chainring / Sugino Aero Mighty cranks
-Kuota "Force One" carbon fork
-Campagnolo Record headset
-Cinelli Alter 120mm stem
-Selle Italia Flite classic saddle
-SRAM chain, Forte 18t cog

All together the build cost me around $300. Bike weighs in at 19 lbs.

The steer tube hasn't been cut down to spec yet, but I'll dial in the fit over the course of the next week and get rid of some of those spacers. Probably also going to get some nicer pedals - the Looks on there are leftover from my commuting days. A pair of Campagnolo Xenon brakes are on their way to replace the Tektros, as well.

I stupidly took a ride without properly tightening down the chainring bolts. By the time I had remembered to do so, two were missing. Gargh. Now all I can do is take pictures of it while I wait for replacement bolts to arrive..

I'm pretty happy with it. What do you think?

Those wheels look weak..and I think that Cinellim stem is possibly the ugliest thing I've ever seen :/

Bummer. To each their own, but that looks like a waste of a good bike.

Thanks! Wheels will be just fine - I'm 135 lbs, and won't be doing too much crazy stuff on the bike. As for the bike; I've got all the original parts sitting in a bag, so if it ever struck me to convert back to geared, it'd only take a second! I don't think I will, though.

Bad news -- somebody stole half your spokes.

But really, if you dig it, then it's good.

Good looking ride (I just am not a fan of those stems, but I still like the ride)

BUT

I am going to be a dick on this one
