A few pics of my latest flame :
1977 vintage, originally with tubulars, needed very little work.

This bike is particulary beautiful but I don't understand the crankset. It looks inexpensive and out of place. Obviously, you've put alot of thought into this build and I'm not trying to be a spoiler. Actually, I'd love to learn something new. If you would please, tell m what it is and why you chose it?

Danny, the crank (SR) was on it when I bought the bike. I'm not crazy about it myself, but it's in good nick, so it'll do for the moment. I only replaced the wheels (it came with tubulars) and tires, the saddle, bartape and toeclipstraps.
BTW, if anybody knows about these cranks, could they possibly tell me which standard they are (Isis or whatever, I'm no crank-expert to say the least); I've got a 90's Campy Mirage crank I could take off my old Peugeot beater (or have the LBS do that) IF it's compatible with this one. It might look a wee bit too modern, but certainly more elegant...
Thanks a lot

Hey Joe, have you ridden it yet? I'm just curious since we have been getting all this fog. Where in Belgium are you at?

I got a couple friends that live in Leuven, but they ride horses instead of bikes. Also, are there any monthly flea markets that you know of? My wife and I only know of the one that takes place in Mechelen. My wife loves those things. I only go because I usually find Belgian Beer glasses for almost nothing.

Have any other photos of the rear derailleur and shifters? It appears that the front derailleur is marked Shimano 60? I'll admit I'm not very well versed in 70's Japanese components, however looking to expand my knowledge in this area.

I'll want to buy that if I ever move to Green Bay. Sweet bike!
If you don't know already, you can buy a jersey to match.

Of course, the period-correct jersey ('77 Groene Leeuw team) would be this one (pic 1); not so great-
looking (the Wiel's one is one of the all time greatest) and impossible to get, anyway. Btw, you'll notice the different green of the jersey as well as the bike, compared to the older ones (those were a much darker green - see pic.2).

That's a fantastic looking bike, thanks for sharing. Interesting component mix, I'd guess that these are the first generation of the "600" line to use that designation (maybe ran out of room on the FD for the 2nd 0), and those are the "Campiest" looking shifters I've ever seen from Big S. I bet the Campag lawyers sent them a cease and desist letter. Also curious about the early Sugino (or SR) Maxy crankset: yes it's kind of beneath the level that this frame deserves, but period-correct perhaps...never seen one with that stamp on the arm, before. Do you (or anybody else) have a close-up pic? Is this a missing link between Sugino and SR? Does it say Sakae Ringyo on the red washers?

That is a beautiful bike! I guess I'm alone in my opinion, but even though it's not a 3 piece, I think the crankset looks cool.

Thanks y'all for the comments. FWIW, the red chainring washers say 'SR silver chainring', the arm stamp reads 'SR Meltforging'. I've definitely seen those on '70's touring bikes.

The RD-6100 was made 1976-1982 (T-Mar will certainly correct me if I have my dates wrong). Shifters are unlike anything I've got listed on Velobase currently. Closest is what I have labled as the '333' downtube shifters.
With some deep digging on Google, I found that Schwinn paired this Shimano 600 rear and Shimano 60 front derailleur on Super Le Tours from 76-78 (and possibly beyond). That may narrow the possible date of this bike down to the late 70's.

with this particular colour combo, so all this adds up nicely - only mystery remainig is that crank then!

Quite welcome. I've been digging around the internet for the last week or so (ok, more like 3 months) finding as much content for my website (the above mentioned velobase.com). I had some minor surgery last Wed so since I'm off the bike for a while I am getting my bike-fix in by digging into the 70's and 80's Shimano equipment. The Shimano 60 was still a new one though. A thanks to Bob Hufford's Schwinn Lightweight Data Book for the find.
Enjoy the new ride, regardless of the odd crank, should be a great ride. I love my 531c frame (~80 Gazelle), can't beat the ride of good quality vintage steel.
