Please help with MSRP & Sale price on Sram Force Bike

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Please help with MSRP & Sale price on Sram Force Bike

Hi

I know that MSRP is a topic that draws flames; so if it bothers you please skip this question.

Given that bikes must have a List Price in order to communicate with most customers their relative value.

What would be a fair list price on a FULL SRAM FORCE EQUIPPED ROAD RACING BIKE with
RITCHEY PRO DS WHEELSET
RITCHEY WCS BAR
RITCHEY WCS STEM
RITCHEY WCS SEATPOST
SUB 3 LB 6061 DB FRAME
SUB 1 LB MONO CARBON FORK
FSA PRECISION AHEADSET, KENDA 200GR TIRES, VELO SEAT
with total bike weight at 16 lbs

suggestions on MSRP?

now - what would be a good sale price for such a bike? a price that would make such a bike really attractive?

Would this be different if the bike were made in USA, made in Italy, made in Taiwan, or made in China?

I would really appreciate any constructive input

thanks
mike

I'm new to road biking, but I've never heard of a carnon fork. Don't you use Kinesis? That's what I have on my moto...

How much does that wheelset usually run by itself? I'm not familiar with it.

I believe the potholes in the metropolitan Detroit area accelerate the testing.

I think the $1800 sale price is too high, given that the Campy Record's went for ~$1200.

Edit: Oops, saw it's now ~$1600.

I don't know about the post, but stems can be had on ebay for ~$55. Force groups are going for ~$1100-$1200. I'd put MSRP on the bike at $2100 and sale price at $1600 or so.

1600 might be a bit high for a sale price seeing as though the full record bike is going for 1600. Record is usually most expensive, DA a few hundred less, and all the SRAM stuff i've seen is a few hundred less than DA. A little bit less than what you have the DA stuff going for would be accurate. I'll agree with the 2,400 to 2,600 as to what to expect at a LBS.

PS If bikesdirect seels a full sram bike, I'll tell the rest of my team (we're getting custom frames). any specials on group buys?

MSRP $2400 would be about right...and what to sell the bike for? $1600-$1700 maybe less for the bike

Your issue here is that there will be a secion of people that are buying it to strip it...you must know this given the Bottecchia deal you had going on the Record bike. Force is coming down in price and many have heard that Red is around the corner to replace it at the top of the SRAM line. I can get an 8pc SRAM group for $1100 new from a dealer...no one in their right mind is paying $1800 for it.

Ritchey WCS 4 axis can be had for $65 from a dealer, WCS AL post can be had for $40, Pro bars for $65.

I can put together your buildkit (everything other than the frame and fork) at a retailer with the same parts other than saddle (Aliante Sport which is > than your Velo) Tires (Michelin PR2 > than your Kenda) for $1647.

People buy your bikes when they think it is an amazing deal...you need to be between $1600 and $1700 plus shipping to meet that criteria.

The comment on the Record bike is correct but this build kit is much better...that crap you hung on the Bottecchia is probably hurting its sales.

Here is how you should have equipped a Campy bike...and made the price around $1k

That is your frame and fork, Campy Centaur components, Mavic Cosmos wheels, Ritchey 4 axis stem, Easton EA70 bars. Match the bars and stem maybe with Ritchey Pro rather than my choices. This frame is pretty nice really.

A quick Google check found this (in red):

MSRP is a slippery devil.

I think Zinn-X is pretty much on the money at list: $2400, sale: $1800, shipped.

Presumably the frame and wheels are better than the Campy bike, though.

The frame on the Campy bike is actually petty nice...though it is heavier than that (not a lot). Fork is a pig though. Wheels and build kit he is talking about is much better.

As to countries: USA built = +$100, Taiwan = baseline, Italy = -$50, China = -$100, at least in my book.

My frame with the headset cups and bearings, the drop outs, the seat post binder and the cage bolts was 3.21 lbs...the fork was like 490g. I could drop nearly half a pound off my bike with a good fork...but that would be like putting lipstick on a pig.

How about if we run this for $1495 for just bikeforums, roadbikereview, and mtbr members?

Yup that is right about where you need to be for price. Good looking and well equipped bike (unlike the Record bike...that XRP stuff is crap)...should sell well and I might even but one if I wasn't a Campy guy and didn't already have 5 bikes.

Any idea where the weight comes in?
