repainting the motobecane...

* Updates on Pg 3*

I've been thinking about giving my MTB some cool custom touches...among them being a (much needed) new paint job...

When the weather gets nice again my g/f's brother and I are going to paint both of our frames (he's a BMXer)...

Here's what i'm thinking for the Motobecane...

Matte-Black (or a really dark charcoal) with high-gloss black lettering...i've seen a few bikes with the black-on -black look and it's sexy as hell...

I did a (very) crude mock-up of what it would look like here:

What do you guys think?

*before shot* for reference

I'm not....I'm putting the Motobecane name back on....just in gloss black over matte black...I think it will look sharp...

Maybe the lettering doesn't show up on your monitor?

Why paint an already black frame black again. The paint seems to be in great condition, take off all those stickers and you will be set. If your hate the logo, tape it off, sand it, paint it the color you want, and then clear coat it. You might not even have to disassemble the bike.

I agree.

If you didn't like the paint, why did you buy it?

I got it used for REALLY cheap...I like the paint but it's very worn in spots and there' s alot of scratches...

I'm also not a fan of the red accents or the gloss black for that matter...

I'm painting a GLOSS black frame MATTE black....that doesn't seem too redundant as there's a big difference...

I'm painting the frame because I WANT to paint the frame...some people just like custom work...I'm one of them...

I don't really feel like having to justify my reasons for painting...I just wanted opinions on the scheme I chose...

It thought it was only Konas that brought shame. Turns out black Motobecanes with red lettering do, too.

I feel shame. (I have a Kona).

Yeah going from matte black to gloss black would seem like an awful lot of work for not much payoff. Whenever i've painted a bike it was to go to a drastically different color. If i were to repaint my satin red mtb, i would go to like a gloss blue, black, or green, maybe some awesome 80's neon splattering.

but to just change the finish seems like a major PITA for a minor difference in look. perhaps just touch it up with some black paint (scratches, wear spots) and then hit it with a gloss clear coat, mostly the same effect methinks.

that's not what i want though...I've painted things before....it's not that much of a PITA...

the paint scheme i chose will be MUCH different than what's currently on there...I don't understand how you guys can't see that?

Haven't you learned yet not to take everything you read in the Mountain Bike forum seriously? You do what you want. Even if your bike shames you.

Personally I have a matte black bike and I love it that way. Otherwise I'd go for a gloss white frame

The new paint scheme is fine. A matte finish would be nice on a mountain bike. Repainting's kind of a behatch though, especially if you're doing it yourself. A green powdercoat would look quite dope.

The only thing I'd change about the bike, on a stylistic level, is the housing. Those white ones look kind of goofy.

heres my opinion.

If you have ever seen a 1967 Shelby GT-500 Mustang, I'd go for the same colors. Motobecane in the gun metal silver and the frame in black. Heres a link to the car. https://www.westsidecruisers.com/Pict...20Garvin_2.jpg

That's my favorite car, aka Eleanor.

that was actually the other option i'd been throwing around...I'll make my decision when I actually go to buy paints...I may go that route....we'll see

although I was thinking the frame in gunmetal and the lettering in black...

All three of my bikes are matte black. So if you want to be cool like me...paint it matte black.

It's only going to get scratched again so , what's the point? Get thee to an automotive store and get a couple bottles of glossy black touch up paint and you are set.

Spraypaint can look a lot like a matte finish. They have different kinds

Whatever floats your boat man, it's your bike. I personally like matte black a lot. I've seen a few mt bikes with that basic scheme and the trek xo-1 cyclocross bikes from a few years ago had it.. I think. Actually it might have been a gloss finish. Anyways, do whatever you want.
