helmets that don't look like mushrooms...

i took a bit of a spill a week ago and slammed my head pretty hard, and it made me want a helmet...but i've always hated every helmet i've ever owned because i look like a bad guy from mario bros. i don't want little italian plumbers attacking me everywhere i go.

so what should i get? i like the giro pneumo and monza, but i'm having trouble finding good deals in the right size and colors that don't blow ass.

I have a pneumo, and it's pretty awesome. I do kinda look like a mushroom though. The solution is just to go so fast that no one can see you looking goofy. Or you can get a bmx helmet if you're really worried.

I have a pneumo and it makes me look like I have a huge melon but I wear it anyway. I think all helmets look stupid in the mirror but not so bad to other people on the street especially when you are riding. I took a recent fall on the ice and hit my head pretty good so I wear the helmet no matter how small the ride and how huge my head looks with it on.

BMX/ skate helmets are pretty much the only way to wear a helmet and keep any punk rock credibility. Ive sort of given up so i just wear a giro atlas.

it would indeed be a really hot helmet. how do you keep your head cool in that? there aren't any vents to suck the hot air off your head....

I wear a Pneumo in warm weather when I can fit my gi-hugic head into it. (No hats).

It looks purposeful.

My rule of thumb is if I plan on going more than 10mph or plan on drinking beer, I wear a helmet.

I use a Bell Aquila:

My el-cheapo MadRock headlamp fits perfectly on it with the visor on and I can fit a winter hat under it, I give it a big thumbs up.

I think the Giro Xen (sans visor) is a pretty decent looking helmet but I tried one on and it didn't fit me at all. Right now I'm sticking with my Bell Furio. There was another thread where somebody posted about Bern helmets. They look interesting if you want to do the skate helmet thing but I have no personal experience with em'.
