Garmin vs Garmin

Hey All:

I purchased a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx thinking I would use it alot... the Garmin Edge was new. Well, I do use it but wonder if it's too much. Many club friends have the Edge and love it. Now I'm thinking about selling the 60CSx and get the Edge. Can anyone give me arguments either way?

I really don't tour.... I go on club rides and weekend charity rides which are mapped.

Any input would be appreciated.

Peace.
Eric

If all you're ever using your Garmin for is uploading routes and tracking training data, then the 305 is a better fit for you. If you need to view a live map, or need to pick a route while you're out and about, then stick with your current computer. Also, your current Garmin works in the car, on hiking trails, you name it -- while the 305 is really only useful on your bike.

For training or fixed routes - go with the 305
For everything else - stick with your 60 CSx

Keep the 60Sx. The Edge is so limited and all your trips can be downloaded into your computer so you won't need a map next time. I have the Legend Cx and would never trade it for the Edge. Most of the features on the Edge like average time, time and distance are recorded better with a regular computer from Cateye.

These are two different GPSs for two different purposes.

The 60CSX is meant for navigation. The Edge is meant for fitness.

The Edge is almost worthless for touring. The last thing I would want is to worry about charging the Edge while on tour. With the 60 you can just pop in a couple of AAAs.

It is like comparing apples and potato chips.

I have both (actually I have the 76c, it is pretty much the same as the 60) but if I had to give up one, it would be the Edge.

And Sorry Dahon.Steve but you still need a map if you are in an area where you don't have at least some familiarity. The GPS screen is just too small for over all planning

Thanks for your thought provoking comments... I think I have decided to keep the 60CSx and get the edge if and when I need it. I love having the maps and this one enables me to just ride and 'get lost' and find my way back.

Thanks for helping me think this through.

Peace.
