Bike license sticker removal-an easy way?

Anyone with an easy way (less labor-intensive) to remove those old reflective 'city license' stickers that got wrapped around the seat tubes of older bikes? I have a 1985 Trek 520 that has a Salt Lake City license sticker on it and I can't seem to get under the sticker with Goo-B-Gone to loosen & remove it. Of course, it was put over the Reynolds sticker on the seat tube! Any ideas outside of fingernails picking at it? Thanks!

Hair Dryer!

Don't waste your time with Goo Gone or naptha. Those type of stickers get brittle, once heated sufficiently they get supple and will peel right off. Any residual gum can be removed with the chemiclas.

Otis, thanks! It worked just great--sticker came right off, cleaned off the residue glue with goo-gone. Thanks again!

I feel your pain! The one on the right is mine; the one on the left belongs to someone else. Same model, same two-tone factory paint job, "littermate" S/Ns 42687 and 42624, i.e., 63 counts apart from a company which produced about 5000 units/year, or about 95/week.

How did your Reynolds sticker fare?

Reynolds sticker did not fare well--I tried to gently pull away as much of the license sticker from it as I could, but apparently the Reynolds sticker over time had bonded with the adhesive from the license sticker and I was left only with a corner attached to the bike. Oh well, the bike definitely looks better w/o that big SLC sticker!--Thing almost wrapped around the whole seat tube!
