Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? songs you sing at the top of your lungs...

when you're stoked (or drunk) and on a bike? i know i'm not the only one that does this.

Fifteen - Petroleum Distillation

"Been having a hard time trying to justify the clouds arising from the cars we drive! And a little to easy seems just a little to hard today, and I'm afriad my children are gonna have to watch the world waste away!.... I was born a little too late to see the dream they call America. See I only wanna be a free man but it's against the law to sleep on the ground in God's land"

...and I thought I was the only one.

if I'm sober and happy I'll sing a My Life With The Thrill Kill Cult song, or maybe Belle and Sebastian, quietly. And when I'm drunk it's usually "Kodachrome" by Paul Simon, sung loudly. And badly.

shokhead, don't be a chode. we like east bay punk in this forum.

I haven't listened to fifteen in forever. Isn't the legend that Jeff Ott blew up his car one day?

I'm generally singing what I've been listening to lately. I'm also partial to showtunes, specifically anything from Guys and Dolls and Les Mis.

Lately, as some of you may surmise, it's been the Rip Offs.

"Why is this in SS and FG?"

are you serious? people need to get over this overly anal "why is this in this forum" garbage. it leads to a very boring forum...

i ride fixed. when i sing these songs, i am on a fixed gear bike. additionally, this is the only forum is visit, and i feel that fixed forum is a community where our commonalities extend beyond how many gears we have on our bikes and we should celebrate these commonalities as well as the bikes we ride.

nah, he didn't blow up his car, but he did become a total wingnut. well, he likely always was, but his wignut tendencies grew in later years. his last solo cd had a picture of his young (4 or 5yrold) daughter holding a rifle.

let's here it for Fifteen's "Helter Smelter!"
"I was thinking about melting down all the cars in the whole world, making brand new mountain bikes for all the boys and girls"

and seriously, what other band advertises the time and starting point for a critical mass ride in their song!?

but when you sing petroleum distillation, almost as important as the lyrics is doing mouth guitar for the long instrumental parts:

DUH nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh
DUH nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh
DUH nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh
DUH nuh nuh BUH nuh nuh nuh

lately i've been screaming the beginning of forstella ford - tell-tale signs and sure-fire ways.

the part that goes "chugga chuggs chug for all! chugga chugga chug intents and purposes! chugga chugga chug i disappear!" and then continues to rock.

haha ironically, jeff ott moved into a house that one of my friends had lived in before him. when she moved out the landlord charged them for $1,500 in damages, then didnt use the money to fix anything so they tried to get jeff ott to testify in court for them, and he refused to testify against the landlord

A while back i watched the South Park movie at Mark from Forstella Ford's apt. While we were watching it, the singer/bass player from Seven Days of Samsara (whose name I forget, and totally feel like a ****** for forgetting since I saw him again, like three months ago...) climbed up the fire escape ladder in the back alleyway, broke in through the window and did a crazy commando roll into the living room. It was awesome.

Anyway, on point... usually when I'm going to work in the morning I get Superchunk's "Slack Mother****er" stuck in my head and I usually start singing along.

good call, DW. I've been on a huge DK kick lately. They just reissued Fresh Fruit with a purty new packaging. Also been thinking of checking out that Jello Biafra and the Melvins album, though I'm highly dubious of it leading anywhere good.

any of the rereleases of DK stuff aren't on Alternative Tentacles as a result of the rest of the band suing Jello. crappy

edit: oh, and i heard the jello/melvins stuff is actually really good, at least live.

I only vaguely know about that but not enough to talk about it educatedly. I would imagine that Jello is still seeing money from those reissues, though. Could be wrong.

Last night, I was singing Black Flag. I saw Rollins do a spoken word show last night so it was sort of in tribute. Then to the dismay of The Girl™, I started doing Liar.

It changes with me. This morning for some reason I had Rival Schools and then it switched to Quicksand.

Whatever's appropriate.
