Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

RS was on Carolina News 14 today. Went to Bike Charlotte with my dad, reporter for News Carolina 14 was there and asked my dad if he could borrow his bike for a story on the event. Story just aired and you can clearly see the Pedal Force logo on the head tube.

Just wanted the bike and not your Dad huh...

See if you can get a copy of that video and let Pedal Force know...

Upload the video so we can all see...

Thanks for the link, bonzo. BS, were you in the clip, too, by any chance?...

That reporter needs to practice up on his riding skills, he was looking a little squirrelly there..

I was worried he might crash my bike. It took him about 10 minutes to film that 30 second spot on the bike. BTW that was Bittersweet that they interviewed. I am in the clip briefly, when they show the first group of riders I am on the right side wearing a 'Where the Wild Things Are' jersey. My daughter and I were wearing matching jerseys (it was her idea).

Okay, this may seem out of context considering I first posted my build on March 2nd...but who cares.

Here is my post:

https://www.bikeforums.net/showpost.p...6&postcount=25

A few questions on my build.

Hammertoe:
What was the weight as pictured? My response: Parts added up to 16.7 lbs. without cages or computer. I weighed bike on a friends bathroom scale today: 17.5 with pedals (Now using Speedplay x-5), cages, and computer. Pretty funny, by friends Madone 5.2 (51 or 52 cm) was 18 lbs...he was bummed.

How does it climb? I've been very happy, definitely more responsive than my 853 Salsa without the weight or flex.

WheresWaldo: How does the bike shift with the Campy/Shimano mix?
Performance is good...at least I'm happy. I've been tuning here and there now and it seems good. At least, I have not been compelled to get one of those converter things.

Bike Lover: How's the Forte saddle?
Comfort on the saddle is great...it does seem to be wearing my shorts a bit and that has me concerned and I am keeping a close eye on things to see if it gets out of control. I am also going to try to wear the threading down a bit something more abrasive than Lycra.

Also, General ride...is it harsh? No, it's the same as my Salsa on smoothness. I've actually lowered my air pressure on both bikes down to 100 front and 105 in back (previously 115 in both) and am digging it. I weight 140 so it's about right.

Anyway, I dig this bike...it makes me want to ride more and more and get better and better. I even do intervals every once and awhile now. And, I don't even race...

Hey chickenmonkey, Mike's Bikes has pretty much the same saddle as the Forte in their house brand but it doesn't have the stitching. I like the forte saddle so I think the I'm going to pick one of the Mike's Bikes version next. Judging from your location, you should be able to get to one of their location without much trouble. Here it is...I think it's cheaper in store: Saddle

P.S. Use one of Mike's Bikes %20 off any item under $100 coupons. coupon

Holy cow! It's even on sale. Thanks!

Performance has a great policy on saddles too, I can take it back no questions asked.

Just now getting to the end of this thread...

Mighty impressive builds guys...

Sad footnote about the Charlotte ride: I remember a BF member from the Charlotte area posting about that cyclist's death back in '05.... I think he was a riding buddy of the guy... Forget his name, but he was pretty wrecked about it and seems to have dropped off BF...

I am only 140 lb but I definitely notice that the RS is stiffer than my LeMond 853 or Aluminum Leader. It climbs great...

FYI, I have the new forte saddle ( you can see it in my sig), I got it for $40 and it no longer has the stitching. Works great on my commuter bike.

Believe it or not, I am just now starting my RS build. I'm new to threadless headsets and I find myself with questions. My headset is the Cane Creek IS-2.

1. The top bearing seats so the top surface is just above the frame's head tube. This creates a gap between the bottom of the cover and the top of the head tube. Is this normal? I presume this is OK; otherwise, the cover would bind against the top of the head tube.

2. Holy headset spacers! I was clueless about how many I would need so I temporarily set my stem height without spacers and matched my Serotta (1.75in of drop between the saddle and top of the bar). I need around 4.5in of spacers. Is this safe? I see all that fork tube sticking out and it makes me imagine all sorts of terrible scenarios. The nice thing is that I only have around 7.5mm of fork tube remaining so I don't think I need to bother cutting it (for now).

I think it was Patriot that posted the first PF build I saw here, and his custom paint job got me inspired. This is a QS2 I put together and did the airbrushing on around Feb '06, and have put around 2k miles on since. It's a great climber (the bike, not me) and more shock absorbing than my '99 Trek 5200 carbon, and that's saying a lot.

QS2 frame
ID-somethingorother fork (PF)
Ultegra 10 speed train (got a good deal and good service from Totalcycling.com in Ireland)
Neuvation M28 wheels-sans decals (2k mi. and never needed spoke adjusting).
FSA AL bars/stem/seatpost
Fizik Arione
Michelin Pro Race II's
FSA SL-K crank (waste of $, should have kept the Ultegra 6600 that came with my groupo)
old, heavy, cheap Shimano pedals that'll get replaced next year.

Not a weight weenie bike, just under 18 lbs, but I'm happy.

For the amateur frame painters here, I scuff sanded the existing clearcoat, airbrushed Createx Auto-Air waterbourne enamels (mostly metallics), a little brush work, then cleared with a few coats of two-part auto urethane.
