You haven't missed much by not going to SLC ... only times we've been aside from during the Winter Olympics was when we had to go to the Home Depot in South Salt Lake and a couple of trips to Fashion Place Mall over in Murray.

You're in Provo, aren't you?

Bay Area or Napa Valley for me.

Portland would also be high up on the list.

Burlington in Vermont was nice, as was Portsmouth in New Hampshire (I think Ronnie James Dio comes from there as well).

Actually, the other place I would consider is the New England area or... and this one's a bit left field ... the French Quarter in New Orleans.

Crosspost from TAN

Just to show Ma that i've been doing some thinking about the next TAN ride...

We have two major issues - when and where

I've been thinking that Australia day would be good, but a lot of people will have their famaily stuff on, making it a bit tough.

I need responses about this people! If you all want Oz day, then that's cool by me

The where, well bbp did tell us that he knew a loop that was magic in Sydney, i'm happy to give that one a blast - end up near his place. I know a killer Czech restaurant that we could hit up. Doma's
OR, bbp might be nice enough to pull out the old bbq in his backyard.
OR, we could do the Sydney races and do my favourite pub crawl on bikes. Start at the Macquarie near Central, the new joint under world square with 50 odd beers on tap, over to the Australian in the rocks, finishing at the Lord Nelson.

Alternatively, the smart idea would be to have it on the coast, meaning all of you guys don't have to travel so far. I'd be thinking that meeting at the same place as last time, go for a ride to someone's joint for a feed and a few quiet beers would be a nice way to spend an arvo. Someone would have to put their hand up for it though...

Oh, and everyone, lurkers included, is welcome. Might as well get everyone in on it.

Let me know everyone!

Expat, sorry to hear about Mrs Expat's "adventure". Hope it all works out well.

I had a great workout yesterday. Ive been trying to work on my core strength in a cycling specific way. Jumped on one of the spin bikes (had the room to myself) and danced on the pedals for 1.5 hours straight with no seated rest. It was perfect. It replicated exactly how I feel when I climb from my lower back perspective.

I wouldnt say I am seconds away but I am stronger

Nah, it was too long to wait after finishing. I think the pro's didn't start until later afternoon or early evening so a suitable leave pass would have ben tuff to secure.

And besides...it was much more inviting to hop into the air-con comfort of the car than to sit around in a fan forced oven environment straight after riding 120kms in the heat (with the last 60kms into a 40-60kmh cross and head wind)

hey easternites, riding up Ferntree Gully Rd to the hills is a bit hairy; I end up spending some time on service lanes and footpaths! I was thinking of trying Wellington Rd, then cutting across via Napolean Rd, Taylors Lane, Kellets or even Lysterfield.

Any good?

The whole area is farked basically. If there is a hill billy red neck clueless driver central in melbourne this is it.

I will look into it a bit for you. I know ive used wellington a few times and seriously its a death trap with the amount of trucks using it as a back door into and out of Melbourne. I use it sparingly to head up past odin's town and into the good stuff.

Anyway im back on the road now. I might go do some recon for you

Odin should be the expert tour guide for us but yes - although depends on what you classify 'the good stuff'. If we are talking hills then yes 'one tree hill rd' and around there is good but if we are talking hydroponic type 'good stuff' then....thats another story alltogether
