Boe,

I like your winter beater more than half the $2k+ blinged out bikes in the main pics thread.

Free Bike everything except the spokes and the rear hub came out of the junk bin
the rear hub is a ss cassette with disc brake mount soone to be a bolt on fixed cog

I don't know if I ever posted my nice bike, but I can't seem to resist putting this one up whenever there's a chance. Just started snowing on the way home tonight, gotta love the silence of the city the snow makes, the better to hear the crunching snow with.

How you know you need a new chain - this started off here last year, and now the axle sits right down in the dropout. Somehow still have the same tight spot in the chain though - and don't go and say it's because it's biopace.

Wish I was a pirate:

Right now 42/14, for s/s and fixed. Perfect for T.O. riding. I also have a 38 and plan on using it with a 15 once the snow arrives.

The coziest bike I own

I had a mishap w/ the big ring a few years back so I ground it down for leg and pants protection.

whats everyone running for ratios for snow? and in what type of terrain (ie: mountainous, way hilly, rolling hills, flat, city, burbs, interstate, cobblestone, ready rock, "mt.goats find a different route")

i'm running 38:16 with knobbies and alot of decent hills once for more then the second half of my daily commute (i would guess about 8-10 decent hills)

thinking i might go 38:18 once it gets whiter

almost all of the bikes in this thread are incredible--so much more soul than 2/3 of the clones in the photo thread--not to mention the fact that so many of them have odd frankencycle tweaks implemented to tune them to the individual needs and proclivities of the riders. A+!
