Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

good for you that they had them in stock. I ordered a pair, which I now have, but they weren't in stock and it took the good folks in Utah - 7 weeks to get them to me.

A long time but nice wheels.

Sorry, I'll try get some pics up soon.

I'm putting on a Centaur 11-23 that I bought earlier this summer from PBK. I have a 50/34 compact and am going to use these for racing. My trainer wheels have a Veloce 12-23

Odd. Called up PricePoint. They claim that these wheels are the same as Alta Race. I thought they were pulling my leg, but they do look exactly like the rims above, but instead of saying "Alta Race" the sticker says "Alta Aero Comp."

So apparently these aren't the "Comp" wheels that Price Point also sells for much cheaper, but these are in fact the better "Race" wheelset.

To further investigate, I called up Reynolds, the manufacturer, and they confirmed the same thing. Apparently, the mix up was that some wheels were meant for OEM and others were meant for the aftermarket but the distribution got screwed up.

Okay, I'm feeling much better now. Whew.

Well, as my luck would have it, one of the spokes on the front wheel is pretty mangled from the shipment.

So now I have to send these back anyway.

Stinkers!

aww man that stinks! I hope everything turns out ok. I would have ordered from pricepoint but my bike is Campy and had to get them from Reparto Corse. Still haven't tried them out yet. Maybe this weekend.

Very nice, they look much better in your pictures than anything I've seen on a retailers web site - great job on the photography. Now we need to know how they ride.

LOL, thanks. I actually thought the pictures turned out crappy. (notice the dust on the hubs). I only took quick shots to put them up for some of the guys that were debating about buying a pair. This weekend I'll clean up my bike and get some bike shots.

As for riding, I either have to wait to borrow my friend's campy cassette lockring or dirve 45 minutes to go buy one (all the LBS carry shimano, so no tools for Campy. )

These wheels seem to be a great buy so I have been looking around the web and found some information that suggests that the Race and Aero Comp may be different wheels.

Not to say that Reynolds doesn't know the truth about its own products, but the description below from this website https://www.blueskycycling.com/view_product.php?pid=2627 makes a comparison between the Race and Aero Comp and the specs show that the Aero Comp is heavier. Race: Race: Front 680g; Rear 910g - Aero Comp: Front 719g, Rear 904g. It is odd that the Aero Comp rear wheel is shown to be lighter. They also are selling here for $229.98.

Reynolds Alta Aero Comp Alloy Road Wheelset
You don't have to spend 50% of the cost of your bike on a wheelset to get a noticeable performance improvement. The Reynolds Alta Comp Aero is designed and built using the same philosophy as the Alta Race, and delivers stunning performance for the price.

Reynolds Alta Aero Comp Alloy Road Wheelset
Size: 700c
Rims: Reynolds Alta Aero Comp
Hub Spacing: Front 100mm, Rear 130mm
Bearing: Sealed Cartridge Bearings
Spoke Count: Front 20, Rear 24
Nipples: Brass
Axle Type: Quick Release
Weight: Front 719g, Rear 904g

Thanks for pointing that out Blandin.

Looks I'll be hitting Price Point for a price adjustment.

Drag, do you have a way of checking the weight on your wheelset?

Sadly, not at that fine of a resolution.

But it's probably time I go get something to do so.

Unfortunately, I already sent the wheels back yesterday.

Not that I'm aware of.

Most online retailers only showed options for Campy or Shimano.

Wow. Wild. The guy at Weight Weenies found out that the rims are Niobium 30.

All of this sounds like that the Aero Comps (apparently the identical wheel as the Race) being sold at Blue Sky Cycling for $230 as pointed out by Blandin are then a freakin' steal!

We will see, I just ordered a set. Yeah, because I really needed another wheelset - no really - I'm sure I do. Cold sweat is breaking now - wheels will be here soon, time to sleep . . .

At that price, it's almost compelling to get a backup SPARE SET!

OK, I need a recap of these Reynolds wheels. $230 seems like a good deal. Are they Niobium 30 rims? What about the hubs? The ad doesn't state Shimano or Campy - are they Shimano only?

Don't want to miss out if there is a deal to be had.....

Price Point and Blue Sky have the Shimano at $260 and $230 respectively. If you want Campy, you have to buy from Reparto Corse for $300.

Edit: I'll call Reynolds on Monday to verify the rim material.
